The Country's Marlborough-based wine correspondent Blair McClean caught up with Jamie Mackay for a preview of the Romeo Bragato Conference which starts tomorrow.
McClean explains that the conference's rather splendid title is actually the name of one of the first people to bring grapevines into New Zealand and plant them.
As well as the Romeo Bragato Conference there is also the Young Viticulturist of the Year National Final taking place which is currently putting contestants through their paces.
The wine industry is enjoying a 6 per cent increase in sales over the past year which Blair says makes it New Zealand's fifth biggest exporter.
