When emergency services were initially called to an incident south of Pahiatua this week, they feared the worst. Initial reports to police indicated spikes from a piece of farm machinery had gone through the body of a worker.
Fortunately, this wasn't the case, Senior Sergeant Jymahl Glassey of the Tararua Police said. The accident had happened on private land while a man was doing repairs to the machine. The machine fell, hitting a man on the head and trapping his thigh. Ambulance staff provided treatment and the man was taken to Palmerston North Hospital to be examined, Mr Glassey said.
He said police were not investigating the "freak" accident.
