Katikati Primary School children celebrated kiwifruit grower Seeka's name change with a feast of the green furry berries at the school at lunchtime last Thursday.
The ZM Black Thunder team is out on the road visiting schools in the region to hand out free kiwifruit as part of their renaming exercise.
Te Puke based Seeka Kiwifruit Industries Ltd has rebranded to become Seeka Ltd to reflect its growth into a diversified produce company.
Client relationship manager Jenni Wilson says they are visiting schools in the Bay of Plenty as part of the rebranding to hand out free kiwifruit.
"It's been a big success so far - it's all part of our community focus and reflects our strong core values with a real focus on quality, relationships and safety."
Chief executive Michael Franks says kiwifruit remains the foundation, but the company has matured to the point where it is now time to reset the brand strategically for its next growth platform.
"Although kiwifruit is still our core business we deal with a lot of other produce so hence the change."
In addition to growing, processing and marketing kiwifruit, avocados and kiwiberries, Seeka also imports, ripens and distributes bananas and tropical fruits from the Philippines and South America in New Zealand, and holds the New Zealand agency for Sumifru.
Last year it acquired leading Australian kiwifruit company Bunbartha Fruit Packers Pty and set up Seeka Australia. The Seeka Main Rd packhouse in Katikati supplies kiwifruit to Seeka.
The ZM Black Thunder team visited Omokoroa No.1 School to hand out fruit.
