The Zero Carbon Bill was set up by the Government to begin the long-term commitment to transition New Zealand to a low emissions and climate resilient economy.

The six-week consultation period for the Zero Carbon Bill is underway and DairyNZ's Senior Policy Adviser for Climate Change, Milena Scott caught up with The Country Early Edition's Rowena Duncum to explain what it all means.

Scott says there are many parts to the Bill, including consulting on what a 2050 target should look like, emissions budgets to reach this target, setting up an independent climate change commission and planning how we adapt to climate change.

Also in today's interview: Milena Scott goes into detail about the bill and how New Zealand could achieve the 2050 target of zero emissions.
