We've had a bit of feedback on The Country for our rural raconteur Jim Hopkins.
Ian has written in after hearing Jim last week and he disagrees with Jim's opinions regarding the Greens and rising living standards.
Ian had a couple of points to make:
1 The Greens do have a viable, sustainable and profitable plan for dairying. It involves less intensive, organic dairying for a far higher profit. I heard James Shaw speak on this recently. His argument was very convincing.
2 Yes, living standards have increased dramatically for vast majority over generations. Yes, it is due to capitalism. Have a glance however at the 'cost' side of the ledger...global climate change, rapid extinction of species, diminishing water supplies, pollution of the oceans, fraking etc etc. There's always a cost Jim. How much more are you prepared to pay?
What does Jim have to say in response?
Finally we get back to Hopkins' usual Monday witticisms.
Why has Jim written a poem for Colin Craig and what is it all about?
