The China International Importers Expo (CIIE) is a great opportunity for Fonterra to showcase its dairy expertise to customers in China, says Teh-han Chow.
"CIIE is an important event in China and held annually - this was the third time we were at this show," Chow, who is CEO for Greater China at Fonterra, told The Country Sport's Breakfast's Lee Piper.
CIIE brings together both domestic and overseas businesses in a forum for international connection, and it was good to see the promotion of imports, "especially as we are in this global economy that is suffering through some of the difficulties of Covid - although China is doing quite well in that aspect," Chow said.
Chinese consumers had increased their spending capabilities so it was the perfect opportunity for Fonterra to showcase products and innovations, Chow said.
This year the theme was innovation, health and immunity which was a rising trend in China. Fonterra had a full line-up products at CIIE, including those from its Brands, Anchor Food Professionals, and Ingredients businesses, Chow said.
The co-op released new products at CIIE, including a probiotics milk powder for adults, low UHT low-fat milk, and two new cream products from New Zealand - Cheese Pro and Easy Topping cream.
Cheese Pro, is a mix of cheese and cream for topping tea macchiatos, and Easy Topping cream is the first ambient cream product the co-op launched in China, Chow said.
Innovation continued to be a focus for Fonterra - "we're taking our business to the next level by evolving the strong business we've built and championing our strengths," Chow said.
The products launched at CIIE used the R&D expertise of the team at FRDC in Palmerston North, Chow said.
"Our approach is to listen to what customers in China want and use the expertise of the team in New Zealand to design products that meet those needs for our Chinese consumers.
"It was really exciting to be able to showcase the goodness of New Zealand dairy to our customers and partners in China."
