Le D?jeuner Catering Stratford A women's hockey team played Te Kiri on Friday night.
Everyone in the team was ready for a good battle and Te Kiri proved they haven't lost that fire power.
Stratford struggled to keep possession but managed to slip in two goals before half time. Stratford then popped in three quick goals after half time from some beautiful right-field play form Erin Taylor, Rebecca Deardon and Paige Bower. Stratford managed to score one more to end the game 6-0. The player of the day was Erin Taylor for her brilliant tactical play.
Sandfords 4 Square Broadway men also played Te Kiri on Friday night. It was a good battle on the Turf
with Te Kiri ahead at half time 2-1 then ending with the final score 3-1.
Josh Andrews scored for Broadway off a penalty corner. Sam Earney won player of the day by showing great skills for a newcomer to the game. Overall Broadway can be pleased with their game showing strength and discipline and it won't be long before they tumble a team or two during the season.
Brian Darth Funeral Services Stratford men's A team played Le D?jeuner Avon on Saturday. Stratford controlled things from the outset and played a good passing game. Scott Williams, playing out of position, stood out at centre half and Curtis Boyde was on target in front of the goal, netting a hat trick. Avon fought to the end with Gil Sandford their standout player. The final score was 12-0 to Stratford.
The class of the newlook A team was too much for Avon. Avon is now looking forward to next week's game
against Broadway. The player of the day for Avon went to Josh Evershed.
Sandfords 4 Square Stratford B women played NPGHS on Saturday at the Stratford Turf. Stratford put up a very good fight but NPGHS, which is a team of fit young ladies with excellent skills, proved too strong . The local team however, is improving every week with lots of new faces. Stratford's only goal scorer was Penny Stark. The final score was 5-1, with Toni Wellington the player of the day.
