THE Stratford Squash Club will be holding their end of year prizegiving upstairs
at the TET Sports Stadium this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The evening is to award prizes to their 2010 club champions as well as an
informal get together for their regular Monday evening club night players. The
club will be providing some nibbles and drinks and all members and guests are invited to attend.
The evening will also be an opportunity to meet the new squash club manager and teaching squash professional Rod Bannister. He has recently been appointed by the executive to build the clubs membership,
manage sponsorship relationships, implement a junior coaching structure and to
oversee all matter relating to squash at the club.
He said that the club wants to be the number one squash club within the
Taranaki Region within a three year period, something he believes is very
achievable.
For the first three months he will be working out of the TET Stadium, however the plan is to secure funding to make the position a full time role.
One of his first focuses will be to identify talent within the Taranaki Region to
begin the Taranaki Junior Squash Academy, that will be based out of Stratford, similar to a successful Palmerston North model and Wanganui Squash Academy where Bannister is the head coach.
