NEBULITE Taranaki Flyers swim squad's 30 swimmers competed strongly at the Taranaki Short Course Championships at the Stratford TSB Pool over the weekend. The meet attracted 150 competitors from Waikato, Wairapa, Bay Of Plenty and Taranaki.
The team had a number of junior swimmers competing at this level for the first time with great results making finals and personal best  times.
They won 57 medals - 26 Gold, 15 Silver and 16 Bronze, from 125 finalists.
Three Taranaki Records were broken: Julian Weir,14yrs, in the 50m Backstroke, with a  time of 28.25, lowered squad mate Jackson Arlidge's time of 28.41.
9yr old Cameron Trethewey's time of 2.42 58 in the 200m freestyle lowered squad mate Mathew Anderson's time of 2.45.98.
11yr Mathew Anderson, in the 400m freestyle, in a time of  5.06.26, lowered Tim Riley of Bell Block's time of 5.07.64, set in 2002
Outstanding swimming by Julian Weir in the 14yr boys events saw him win 8 gold and a silver medals, closely followed by 11yr Mathew Anderson with 6 gold and 9yr old Cameron Trethewey's  7 gold and a bronze.
