TOKO schoolchildren were excited on Tuesday morning when Flick the Fire Engine arrived at the school with 'Fireman Trev" at the wheel.
Flick is a little Morris Minor truck, on its first outing after being reborn as a small fire engine, and it will be used to promote fire safety through schools.
Fireman Trev is Trevor Dent, Station Officer at the Toko Fire Station who has been fire safety officer for Eastern Taranaki schools and playcentres for the past 12 years.
He decided a year ago to turn the 1962 Morris 1000 into a miniature fire truck, and now after 12 months of hard work and help from many businesses in Stratford, Flick is ready for the road. It has a hand-cranked siren (from a real fire engine), a hose reel, flashing lights and a sound system. It will soon have a water pump fitted.
Trevor plans to visit schools all round Central Taranaki with Flick and his fire safety message. Watch for Flick and Trev at the Stratford Christmas parade this Friday evening.
