Whangamomona residents had their chance to voice their opinions on the future of the district during a meeting in the republic last Tuesday.
The Stratford District council hosted a Long Term Plan consultation meeting at the Whangamomona Hall which was followed by a public forum and the council's ordinary meeting.
More than 12 residents turned up to the meeting, where Mayor Neil Volzke gave a presentation on the key points of the plan which is open for submissions until April 24.
He encouraged residents to submit on the plan. People asked questions about recycling, the swimming pool, changes to the uniform annual general charge and the Whangamomona road.
The meeting was followed by the council's ordinary meeting, which started with a public forum.
Whangamomona Hotel owner Richard Pratt raised several issues, including the Whangamomona Road, the need for toilets on the Pohokura or Strathmore Saddle and the need for a rubbish and recycling facility in the township.
Mr Volzke says council would respond to each speaker and that their concerns would be noted and a course of action planned.
He says the meeting went well and it was a good opportunity to hold a public forum and consult with the community on planning issues.
It was also a way of indicating to the people in the eastern part of the district that they are included in the Stratford District and they are part of the wider community.
"It's a way of making sure we have contact with the people and everybody gets to have their say."
