Fifteen-year-old Paige Harvey has always loved to bake and decorate cakes "and now I have the best excuse to spend my time playing with icing".
After the new rugby boots of Paige's boyfriend Jamie O'Hanlon were stolen from rugby training last month, Paige decided to fundraise.
"Good quality boots are expensive, and Jamie has a trip to Australia in July." Rugby is important to Jamie and she wanted to help him any way she could.
Over the next couple of months Paige will be selling her home-made chocolate cupcakes for $2.50 each, with all the proceeds going towards purchasing Jamie a pair of rugby boots for his trip.
"I've chosen chocolate because chocolate is the most popular and I need to raise about $200."
Paige says her efforts to fundraise wouldn't be possible without the support of her mother, "who has let me completely take over the kitchen", and Jamie's grandparents, "who are going halves with me on the cost of all the ingredients".
Paige is taking pre-orders for cupcakes which can be ordered at ITM New Plymouth or in the Stratford Press office.
Any local businesses who would be willing to have an order form available can contact the Stratford Press for more information.
