A JOINT exhibition of pottery and embroidery will be staged at the Percy Thompson Gallery from September 12 to October 2.
The exhibition will be opened on Friday, September 12 at 7.30pm at the gallery.
This exhibition will show a wealth of talent in these two crafts, which complement each other in their diversity and in the ability of the artists involved. Three groups, The New Plymouth Potters Inc, The Waikato Society of Potters, and The New Plymouth Embroiderers' Guild, have combined to provide this feast of visual and textural delights. Members of the Embroiderers' Guild will be on hand on weekends during the exhibition to explain the details of their creations.
Recollection multi media decoupage by Joan and Dick Wills. (Community Gallery) The exhibition will include decoupage boxes of varying sizes, decorated pre 1914 shoe lasts, iconic triptychs with Byzantine themes and some acrylic paintings an extension of our work, some as decoupage and acrylic background.
Over the years Joan and Dick have exhibited occasionally since 1997, developing a unique type of art with an emphasis on finish, particularly our boxes.
Joan's expertise has produced some of our best work through an accumulated knowledge of adhesives, shellacs and varnishes.
With a surgeon like approach of a scalpel, she has compiled an amazing library of ready material over the years for our projects.
Some items taking months to complete have found their way into homes throughout New Zealand and overseas at times passing on to other family members as heirlooms.
They are forever searching out new ideas and methods and with a liking for strong colours have moved towards acrylics and oil pastels inspired by the great artists of old.
