Springs Speedway bursts to life tomorrow night for their Grand Opening and Guy Fawkes night meeting and a young midget operation will be the focus for many.
Scott Buckley will run a three-car BSL Team Terra outfit with some raw but talented drivers that he hopes will mix it at the pointy end of the field this season.
He has built all three cars with a radical design during the off-season and will run the powerful Esslinger engines in them.
"I started designing my own car about four years ago and I raced that myself for a few years and had a bit of success with it," Buckley said. "I changed it a few times and basically I just came to a final design that I thought I could put on the market.
"We built a car late last year that went over to Australia and ran the 50-lapper over the year.
"Bill [Scott's father] decided to run a team out of my shop with me heading it and he wanted to run Terras of course. So I built three more Terras and these are the latest evolution – they are the same as the one I built last year but I just tidied a few things up.
"I think they have come out really well so we will see how they perform now."
The cars will be driven by some young drivers on the up with Buckley admitting this could be a little bit of an Achilles heel to begin with.
"We have Leon Burgess and I have Travis Buckley, Bill's adopted son who is going to be in one of them and then Aaron Hodgson is my apprentice," Buckley said. "He has been involved in the Formula First series and has done quite well in that so we have upped him to A-grade drive this year.
"He is smooth on the throttle and things you look for in a driver and I am confident he will go alright.
"I have two basic rookies and Travis has done one season and he has just turned 16. He has shown some promise but he is getting there.
"The machinery is second to none – they are the best cars I can build. We might have a few good runs and surprise a few people."
All classes will be in action on opening night with points for the Springs Speedway season championship on the line. Racing starts at 6.30pm with a Guy Fawkes display commencing at 10.30pm.
