Blackpool's pitch at Bloomfield Rd, described by manager Steve McMahon as the worst in the English soccer league, will be relaid for the first time in 103 years in the off-season.
The turf has been in place since Blackpool moved to the ground in 1899.
Stanley Matthews, Blackpool's greatest player, wasamong the thousands who played on the pitch. Blackpool, who in Matthews' day were in the top flight, are now a second division side, but the club have ambitions to regain their former glory.
