The chance of one record for top New Zealand jumps rider Clayton Chipperfield has gone, but another remains a distinct possibility.
It is now impossible for Chipperfield to break the record for most wins in jumping races for a racing season.
Chipperfield took his season's tally in jumping races to 20 when combining with the Allan Sharrock-trained Bogeyman in the opening race at the Opunake Racing Club's meeting at Hawera on Saturday.
The record of most wins in a season belongs to Brett Scott, who had 28 wins over fences in the 1995-96 season.
Chipperfield would need eight more wins to equal the record but there are only a maximum of seven further opportunities before the season finishes on July 31.
But he is still in the running for most jumping wins in a calendar year. That record is 24 and was set by Vern Simpson in 1955.
Chipperfield has ridden 16 winners so far this year and there are at least a further 50 races remaining.
