A South Auckland mother has been pack-raped and beaten unconscious outside her home.
It is the second such attack in Auckland in a fortnight.
The 33-year-old's de facto husband found her lying on a driveway early on Sunday.
She had been raped and bashed, suffering injuries to her fingers and hands and one side of her body. She also suffered head injuries and cannot remember the attack.
It follows the brutal pack rape of a 20-year-old woman in central Auckland's Tyler St on January 25. Inquiries are still continuing into that attack, which detectives believe was random and opportunistic. Police do not believe the pack rapes are linked but will not rule it out entirely.
In the South Auckland rape, the victim arrived at the house where she lives in Albert St, Otahuhu, about 4 am on Sunday.
She had been visiting a relative, had been drinking, and had driven home. She told police she remembered pulling up and seeing a group of men outside. Detectives believe she was attacked either in the vehicle or near it.
Her partner noticed the vehicle outside parked in an unusual way. He found the woman shortly afterwards.
Detective Senior Sergeant Bernie Hollewand, who heads the Counties Manukau crime squad, appealed to anyone who lived in the area or who knew anything about the attack to come forward.
It was likely the rapists had links to the Albert St area.
Detectives will again canvass residents in the area but last night had no firm leads.
