Surely someone could have seen this coming.
The NFL recently partnered with immensly popular video game Fortnite, releasing a bunch of new content including the option to put your avatar in the uniform of your favourite team.
With the new content, gamers predicatably took the opportunity to have some arguably distasteful fun with some of the NFL's more infamous storylines.
Players have created avatars resembling such former NFL players as Michael Vick, Aaron Hernandez, O.J. Simpson and Colin Kaepernik.
Vick, a former quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was sentenced to prison in 2008 for his part in operating a dog-fighting venture. A Fortnite player has used a character resembling Vick - wearing a No.7 Atlanta jersey - with a dog companion.
Hernandez, a former tight end with the New England Patriots, was charged with first-degree murder over the shooting of Odin Lloyd and was sentenced to life in prison before taking his own life behind bars. A Fortnite player has used a character resembling Hernandez, with a gun his weapon of choice.
Simpson's troubles with the law are well documented after he was tried, and found not guilty, over the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Despite being found not guilty, many believe he was - with a Fortnite player being one of them.
Players have also been seen donning Kaepernik skins and kneeling during games. Kaepernik was the first to kneel during the national anthem ahead of NFL games in protest of racial injustice in America. He has since fallen out of the league, and filed a grievance against the league alledging its owners colluded to keep him out of the league.
