The Northern Stars have overcome many challenges this ANZ Premiership season, as the youngest team in the national league continue the search of making their mark.
And netball fans will be treated to a taste of what's gone on behind the scenes in a new SKY Sport netball documentary Shooting Stars, which will air this Sunday following the Stars' round 11 match against the Central Pulse.
With a controversial red-card send-off for key defender Fa'amu Ioane in just their second game of the season and seven-straight defeats to follow, the Stars faced the harsh reality of being the weakest team in the league.
But determined to make their comeback, the Stars pushed on to claim their first win of the season in front of an ecstatic home crowd in June at their new home stadium of Pulman Arena, and are now ranked fifth on the Premiership ladder.
The documentary, which was shot over the last two months, reveals the inner workings of the squad as the exciting new generation of netballers strive toward building their own legacy in the netball mad regions of South and East Auckland.
SKY Director of Sport, Richard Last said the documentary gives viewers the chance to see what it's like to be a part of an ANZ Premiership team and hoped it would serve as an inspiration to the next generation of netballers.
"Over the past two months, the SKY Sport crew have spent time with the Stars, getting to know the team to understand the challenges, determination and sheer fun of being part of an ANZ Premiership team.
"They've done a brilliant job capturing the inner workings of the squad and all of the emotion that comes with heartbreaking losses and historic victories. What they've captured will no doubt be inspiring to those wishing to be top-class netballers and to sport fans in general."
Co-producer Olivia Xia said the Stars were an enjoyable team to work with and said the extensive behind the scenes access made for an exciting insight into the team's everyday lives.
"They were a fun team to work with, they have a lot of fun before the games and then when they are in game mode they are so focused and so serious, which you will see in the documentary."
"We had so much access to the team and behind the scenes, you get to see the players' daily life and see another side to their personalities so it was a really awesome journey to be a part of and to capture."
"The team were such a joy to work with."
Shooting Stars will debut on Sunday at 6.00pm on SKY Sport 1.
