Due to the abysmal weather Auckland has faced over the past two weeks, the 2018 New Zealand Polo Open has been cancelled.
Posting a letter to their Facebook page, the event director Hannah Marshall shared their disappointment in having to cancel the event.
"As a result of the unprecedented level of rainfall during the last two weeks, the Auckland Club polo grounds are unfit to play on.
"It is therefore with great disappointment we have to tell you that the 2018 NZ Polo Open has been unavoidably cancelled," the letter read.
It assures guests that the decision to axe this years event was not a decision taken lightly.
"Health and safety of players, horses and our guests is paramount and is severely compromised in these conditions ... with the unstable weather and very damp grounds this is simply not possible," Marshall wrote.
The letter finishes thanking guests for their support and the work put into the event by many others.
"We look forward to welcoming you to the 2019 NZ Polo Open under sunny skies next February," she said.
