Brendon Hawtin and Hugh Bowman are hoping to go one better in Sunday week's Karaka Million at Ellerslie.
They first combined in 2012 when Silk Pins, who was prepared by Hawtin and his father Keith, beat all but the Anthony Freedman-trained Ockham's Razor and their hopes this time around will rest with Padraig.
"We've been mates for quite a while and Hugh has been confirmed for the ride," Hawtin said.
Padraig is part-owned by Tommy Heptinstall, who has also enjoyed past success with Bowman.
"They've had a bit of luck together with Trent [Busuttin] when Sangster won the VRC Derby," Hawtin said.
"Tommy said that if Padraig happened to make it through to the Karaka Million then Hugh would be our man."
Padraig confirmed his spot with his impressive last-start win at Trentham.
"I knew he had improved since his first start, but he blew me away on Saturday," Hawtin said.
• Winx has passed the first test in what shapes as another record-breaking preparation, putting in an encouraging barrier trial performance in her first public appearance since her stunning Cox Plate defence.
Trainer Chris Waller said he was happy with her fitness levels after she finished 3 lengths third behind Music Magnate in a 900m heat at Rosehill yesterday morning.
With Hugh Bowman aboard, Winx crossed the line just behind stablemate Endless Drama.
