The Sports Tribunal has upheld an appeal by Andrew Roy against a decision Canoe Racing New Zealand made not to pick him for a World Championships event.
In a decision released today, the Tribunal said the Canoe Racing New Zealand (CRNZ) decision not to select Mr Roy was at odds with a selection policy.
Mr Roy was not chosen for an Under 23 "K1 200" event at the World Championships this year.
The Tribunal said CRNZ failed to meet normal selector meeting requirements, formal voting requirements, timing requirements and the requirement to prepare a selectors report.
The Tribunal also said CRNZ was too "undisciplined and casual" when assessing Mr Roy's performances.
However, the Tribunal said both Mr Roy and CRNZ had pledged to reconcile.
"...We note that both parties indicated that they wished to work together to re-establish good relationships. We commend them for this. Many sporting bodies and athletes incur difficulties from time to time but, for the good of the sport, usually resolve and put them behind them."
