Tracey Nelson looks back on previous encounters between the All Blacks and Springboks and what history says ahead of Saturday's test in Auckland.
ALL BLACKS v SPRINGBOKS (Eden Park, Referee Romain Poite)
In the Springboks the All Blacks have their most formidable foe, with an overall winning percentage of just 56 percent from the 85 games the two nations have played. However, since the game went professional the All Blacks and Springboks have met on 43 occasions with the All Blacks winning 30 of those games.
When it comes to games played on New Zealand soil the All Blacks have won 28 of the 39 matches, with nine wins by the Springboks, and two draws. It will be the 10th time the two teams have played at Eden Park, and the Springboks have only won in Auckland twice - in 1921 and 1937.
Eden Park is a happy hunting ground for the All Blacks, they have an 84 percent winning record here. The All Blacks haven't lost on Eden Park since 1994.
The All Blacks are on a six match unbeaten run, while the Springboks have won their last nine - the South Africans haven't won 10 consecutive games since 2008, when they won 13 games in a row. The Springboks' last loss was against the All Blacks last year.
The All Blacks have scored a try in 28 consecutive matches against South Africa. The last time the Springboks kept the All Blacks try-less was in 2001 in Cape Town.
Dane Coles at 96 kg and with just eight test caps to his name (six of which are off the bench) comes up against Bismark du Plessis who is 112 kg, has played 51 tests, and scored seven test tries.
Owen Franks will be playing his 50th test since his debut against Italy in 2009. He is yet to score a test try.
Morne Steyn has missed just three of his 28 kicks for goal in this series, and has an impressive 89.3 percent success rate. Dan Carter only managed a 57 percent success rate against Argentina last week.
The All Blacks have the chance to take the record for the most test wins this weekend. They are currently tied with France having both won 382 test matches.
The Springboks have conceded an average of just under eight penalties per game so far in this year's Rugby Championship, while the All Blacks have conceded an average of just over 10.
Romain Poite has officiated in four All Blacks test matches (v England, Canada, Ireland, and Argentina) and the All Blacks have won all four games. When Poite referred the Rugby Championship game against Argentina in Wellington last year he was strict around correct binding in scrums, with the All Blacks conceding two penalties for flankers releasing their bind early.
