Irene van Dyk has been preferred to Cathrine Latu in the New Zealand team to compete in November's Fast5 netball world series to be held in Auckland.
Only 10 players are allowed in each squad, meaning the selectors could realistically select only one goal shoot.
It came down to a choice between van Dyk and Latu and they plumped for their most experienced player and also one more suited to what is a fast-paced and mobile game.
"With the advent of no wing defence or wing attack, player versatility was paramount,'' Fast5 Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu said.
"We were also aware a team of 10 could not carry two specialist holding shooters, it meant a tough choice, but we have opted for our most experienced goal shoot - Irene van Dyk.''
Fast5 is a condensed format with five players on court at one time but with unlimited substitutions during intervals or play. Players can score one, two or three points depending on where they shoot the ball from.
