Wellington midfield back Charlie Ngatai and Manawatu captain Nick Crosswell have both signed with the Chiefs until 2014.
Ngatai, a former New Zealand secondary schools representative who played for Poverty Bay while still at Gisborne Boys' High School, saw limited game time with the Hurricanes this year.
The 22-year-old made his ITM Cup debut for Wellington at the age of 18 and was part of the New Zealand under-20 IRB world championship team in 2010, coached by Chiefs mentor Dave Rennie.
Rennie said: "Charlie is fast and solid with a strong skill set. I had the pleasure of working with Charlie with the New Zealand under-20s in Argentina and am excited about him joining our squad."
Crosswell is a 26-year-old loose forward with close to 100 first-class games under his belt through more than 30 Super Rugby appearances.
He has represented New Zealand at secondary school and under-19 level and is entering his seventh season with Manawatu, where he was previously coached by Rennie. Crosswell has also played for both the Hurricanes and Highlanders previously.
"Nick brings with him a wealth of experience and strong leadership skills. He is a hard working, abrasive player and the type of character that will fit perfectly into the Chiefs family," Rennie said.
The two newest additions to the Chiefs will go head to head tomorrow night in their opening ITM Cup clash, when Manawatu host Wellington.
