Shannon Doyle, the New Plymouth-based rider, is on his first visit to Gore today to ride for the Riccarton stable of Shane Kennedy. The rides include Bangalore Bullet in the Gore Guineas.
Bangalore Bullet ran Semper Plus to half a length in the Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Wingatui on December 26 when ridden by Jay Misbah.
The latter has the mount on Ortem Fire today. Ortem Fire was set for the race by trainers Brian and Shane Anderton after her six-length last-start win at Gore on December 18. The stable also has Gold Leaf in the Guineas.
He was an impressive maiden winner at Wingatui in November and finished a good third at Winton in his other start. He has subsequently had chiropractic treatment.
Kylie Williams is back on Chaparella in the Gore Cup.
She has ridden the mare in her three wins from five starts this season. She won the 2010 Gore Guineas on Chaparella.
Ashlee Mundy is the new rider for Woodyeva in the Gore Cup. Woodyeva won the Waikouaiti Cup in the hands of Shankar Muniandy and the big chestnut did well for fifth in the Clare Cup at Omakau two days later after an interrupted run.
His trainer John Parsons has scratched Arietta (race 3). The filly missed work recently after being kicked while in a paddock.
Charlotte Bellew has her first race ride today. She has been engaged for Our Bee Jay, the top weight with 61.5kg in race 5. Bellew can claim 4kg.
Our Bee Jay, who has been freshened since racing in November, has won four races at Gore.
Bellew is apprenticed to her father, Sean, at Invercargill.
She served a probationary period with Shane Kennedy at Riccarton. She was sidelined for some months after a fall in trackwork in October, 2010.
