Newcastle fans were livid at a video referee decision to award Penrith lock Joseph Paulo a try which helped the Panthers to a 34-30 NRL victory over home team Newcastle last night.
The benefit-of-the-doubt ruling gave a 72nd-minute try to Paulo which locked the score at 30-30.
Penrith centre Adrian Purtell then crossed in the final minute to deliver the thrilling win to the visitors after Newcastle had led 24-6 at halftime.
In last night's late NRL game, Souths had a comfortable 38-16 win over the Bulldogs in Sydney after an explosive start in which both sides scored tries within the first five minutes.
