KEY POINTS:
Hamish Pepper and Carl Williams just missed a podium finish, ending up fourth in the Star class at the world yachting championships in Cascais, Portugal.
They had already qualified New Zealand an Olympic berth in Beijing in the class.
Strong winds cancelled all races today, with some of yesterday's standings becoming the final placings.
The Finn Gold Cup was won by Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada of Brazil, with Fernando Echavarri and Anton Paz, of Spain, taking their Tornado class.
The Lasers and Laser Radials medal races will be staged tonight, with both Yachting New Zealand Olympic squad sailors in the top 10.
Andrew Murdoch is fourth in the Laser fleet, with the gap between second and fifth a mere five points. Tom Slingsby, of Australia, is well advanced on the fleet with a 12-point margin.
Jo Aleh will sail in the Laser Radial medal race tonight. She is lying in eighth place.
Olympic qualification for New Zealand in these classes is now in the bag with Murdoch and Aleh placed well inside the quota of places up for grabs. The top 29 nations in the Laser and top 19 in the Laser Radial earn an Olympic spot.
The Finn and Yngling fleets will sail two races tonight to wrap up the qualifying to decide the top 10 for the medal race.
Both Barbara Kendall and Jon-Paul Tobin in board sailing, as well as Sharon Ferris and crew in the Yngling, are all in the top seven overall at present.
