Shock across the national motorsport community in the wake of a crash which has left a stalwart of the sport fighting for his life.
Ian 'Inky' Tulloch, a multiple New Zealand and Australian race champion, is in critical condition in hospital after a crash at Southland's Teretonga Park on Sunday.
Motorsport NZ boss Brian Budd says it's tough news to swallow.
He says it's absolutely dreadful, as Tulloch's a very respected member of the community, having contributed for many years in different forms of the sport.
The 65-year-old was transferred from Southland to Christchurch hospital late Monday.
Budd says they hope to receive witness and official reports from raceway officials.
He says once they compare all their information it'll give them a picture as to whether any safety concerns need to be addressed.
