American golfer Heath Slocum won the showdown between two PGA Tour non-winners by parring the 18th hole for a one-shot victory over Australian Aaron Baddeley at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson yesterday.
Slocum, 30, shot a seven-under-par 65 for a total of 22-under 266, the lowest since 1988 when David Frostwon at Tucson National with the same total.
Slocum earned his first title in 78 starts when Baddeley, 22, three-putted the 18th green, missing a 1.5m par putt that would have forced a playoff. The bogey, Baddeley's first since the second round, left him with a 66.
Victory earned Slocum US$540,000 ($780,460), lifting his season's earnings to US$640,604.
