Cricket: Jones apologises for 'terrorist' comment

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones has apologised to South Africa's Hashim Amla for calling him a terrorist during the test between South Africa and Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Jones was sacked immediately by his South African television employer for referring to Amla on-air as a terrorist.

Now back in Melbourne, Jones admits he has done a stupid thing in making a ridiculous off-the-wall comment that unfortunately was picked up in the background.

Jones says there was only one country in the world that did not take the commercial break, and that was South Africa.

He says he wrote out a full page letter expressing his sincerest apologies to all involved, and he has also apologised to Amla in person.

Jones says Amla told him he hoped he would get through the ugly situation he had got himself into.
