Lake City Athletic Club members of all ages have impressed at several events held this month.
Thirteen youngsters competed at the Athletics Waikato/Bay of Plenty Children's Championships in Hamilton on March 17.
Among the medal winners were Vesty Simes (second in Grade 7 shot put), Ave Frost (third in Grade 8 discus), Trelise Howard (second in Grade 10 400m and 800m), Lillian Muir (second in Grade 12 100m, first in 200m, long jump and high jump), Gisele Howard (third in Grade 13 discus, shot put and long jump), Cooper Simes (first in Grade 10 400m, second in 100m and 200m and third in long jump), Manaia Christiansen (first in Grade 10 discus, third in shot put) and Hayden Chapman (third in Grade 11 400m).
Tyla Albrecht, Nikita Harding, Katie Tapsell, Anton Harding and Hamish Chapman also performed admirably in strong fields.
At the other end of the age scale, five Lake City men showed the younger generation what they can aspire to at the New Zealand Masters Track and Field Championships in Whangarei at the start of March.
In the 40 men's age group Sjors Corporaal claimed gold medals in the 1500m, 3000m and 5000m, while Brendon Keenan finished second in the 3000m and 5000m and third in the 1500m.
Jason Cameron finished first in the 45 men's 3000m and third in the 5000m. Tony Broadhead won the 50 men's 3000m and 5000m and finished fourth in the 1500m.
In the 65 men's Graeme Adams took silver in the 3000m and 2000m steeplechase and bronze in the 1500m and 5000m.
The club also had athletes competing at the New Zealand Track and Field Championships in Hamilton from March 9-12.
Hannah Gapes, competing in the under-18 women, finished seventh in her 1500m heat and 10th overall in the 3000m.
Michael Voss finished seventh in the 20 men's 5000m. Lisa Adams, in her first major competition, won the Para F37 shot put and discus.
