Sam Bryant and Brian Flett, of the Rotorua Citizens Club, have won the Rotorua Indoor Bowls Association Championship Pairs.
In the final, at the Ngongotaha Hall on Sunday, they beat last year's champions, Matthew Farquhar and Shanna Riley, 12-9.
In the semifinals, Bryant and Flett beat Gavin Rennie and Christina Kingi, of Owhata, 13-6 while Farquhar and Riley beat Gina Owen and Karen Te Tamaki, of Owhata, 8-4.
The final, over nine ends, saw Farquhar and Riley make the best start to lead 6-4 after six
ends. Bryant and Flett then took control, scoring two, five and one shots to lead 12-6
after eight ends. On the final end Farquhar and Riley scored three shots, but Bryant and Flett took the win 12-9.
Wayne Hitchens and Delwyn Hughes, of Owhata, won the plate event for non-qualifiers. They defeated James Schuster and Keith Richardson, of Owhata, 9-5 in the final.
Sixteen players contested the championship and six teams qualified for post-section play.
