Taupo has an 11 point stranglehold on the Waikato/Bay of Plenty federation league - which shouldn't change much tomorrow.
Taupo are headed for a clash with Whakatane while second placed sides Matamata Swifts and Rotorua United are to meet in Rotorua.
Swifts were upset by Claudelands Rovers last weekend, which increased Taupo's lead.
Rotorua United took advantage of the Swifts' slip up to draw level.
So tomorrow, the winner of their clash at the Rotorua International Stadium will claim outright second place.
The McDonalds-sponsored Rotorua side are unbeaten after three second round games while Matamata have lost two of their last three.
Both sides have good defensive records and both have found goals relatively hard to come by so expect a close game with few goals.
Matamata won the first encounter 2-0 but the momentum and home advantage is with United this time.
Two weeks ago Ngongotaha moved off the bottom of the table for the first time, but last week they had the bye and Claudelands' win over Matamata pushed them back to last. Three points against Cambridge at Stembridge Rd will put them ahead of Tauranga, who have the bye, and depending on the outcome of the Huntly Thistle, Claudelands Rovers game they could move up another place.
Cambridge will be confident of a win but the Villagers are no easy-beats, especially in front of their supporters.
The most defining 10 minutes of the competition could well have been the time added on when Whakatane Town met Finns MacCahuls' Taupo in the first round.
Whakatane looked certain to lift the Challenge Shield and go to the top of the table when they led 1-0 after 90 minutes, but in the 10th minute of referee's time Taupo snatched the equaliser. It was a cruel blow for Whakatane who on the day fully deserved the win.
The shield will not be at stake, and they may not be able to catch the run away leaders but the home team will not lack motivation when the two meet at Rex Morpeth Park.
There's a little matter of that first game robbery, and with two games in hand they are only three points off second place.
* Points Table: Taupo 35, Matamata and Rotorua United 24, Te Awamutu Whakatane 21, Otorohanga 20, Cambridge 19, Huntly 9, Claudelands 8, Tauranga 7, Ngongotaha 6.
