How wet was Saturday?
According to the Metservice, Rotorua was the wettest place in New Zealand on Saturday and if you were outside at any time of the day you would have understood how wet it was.
A total of 94mm of rain fell on the city - about a month's worth of rain in one day. In November, a total of 95mm of rain fell during the whole month.
For a substantial part of that time I was in town attempting to get some Christmas shopping done with two children and a girlfriend - all of us wearing gumboots. After lunch we headed back to the car ... which was when the heavy downpour hit and we got drenched. Needless to say, that was the end of the Christmas shopping trip and we headed home to get dry and warm.
Actually the whole week has been a pretty wet one in Rotorua and it definitely can impact on a household.
I have overheard some talk about having cabin-fever - being stuck indoors and needing to get out of the house - others have talked about being lazy and just wanting to stay in bed all day and others have talked about how grumpy the wet weather makes them. I can understand all of that.
Not only are you limited to what you can do outdoors in heavy rain, your washing can pile up dramatically - just as mine did last week.
On the one decent day we had I hung my washing out to dry but it rained before I got home from work.
So, my weekend mission was to get the huge pile of washing dried - which I did thanks to the laundromat.
I am sure many of us are waiting for a break in the wet weather so we can enjoy the outdoors again. However, while many of us have been annoyed by the rain (Facebook posts have revealed this), there are some who enjoy it and will jump at the chance to have a lazy weekend watching movies with their families.
