Fish & Game is holding an open day at the Ngongotaha hatchery near Rotorua on Sunday.
The day is aimed at everyone from seasoned anglers to would-be fishers, general public and children.
The open day is a warm up for the new trout fishing season and a fun family occasion.
Those who go along can take part in sessions on preparing trout for the smoker and fly tying.
Fish & Game staff also run guided tours of the hatchery on the day, providing insights into how staff raise more than 100,000 fish a year to keep North Island lakes stocked with fish bred from some of the district's finest fish, from Lake Tarawera.
The programme includes:

10.15am: Boning and smoking your catch, learn how to get rid of those pesky bones and hot smoke your catch.
