A great debate with some well-known faces taking part discussing the homeless is set to raise funds to support some of Rotorua's needy people.
Former Labour MP Steve Chadwick, local speaker Kingi Biddle, Rotorua Daily Post columnist Merepeka Raukawa-Tait, former district councillor Cliff Lee, current councillor Charles Sturt and BarneyJewell, from the Rotorua Night Shelter Trust, will be taking part in the debate entitled 'Joining the Homeless is a Great Lifestyle Choice'.
Reverend Tom Poata will be adjudicating the debate.
The discussion is a fundraiser for the trust which has been battling more than a decade to find a place for the homeless to sleep at night. They recently thought their dreams had come true but it fell over because the property wasn't zoned for such a facility.
Trustee Jackie Evans said with winter here they were worried about where the 15 or so "hard core homeless, sleeping rough" would keep warm.
Money is needed to pay rent on the office they use and to finance a place once found.
"We still need to fundraise until we do find a facility and with winter just around the corner we want to get things started so we can help the homeless," she said.
People would find the debate entertaining, Ms Evans said.
