The people of Rotorua, by and large, are following the new rules of the lockdown of wearing face coverings at supermarkets.
After a positive Covid-19 Delta test was returned, new mask rules were introduced, meaning people must wear a face covering if a customer or an employee involving customer contactat a business or service.
Current exemptions to the rule are children under the age of 12, those with a physical or mental illness, and those who have conditions or a disability that makes wearing a face-covering unsuitable, according to the Government's Covid-19 website.
Police have instructed stores to contact police rather than trying to enforce the rules if someone refused to wear a mask or face covering. However, compliance with the new rules had generally been good across the region.
An unofficial Rotorua Daily Post survey was undertaken of people entering supermarkets on Thursday morning during a 15-minute period.
A Rotorua Daily Post photographer in the Countdown Fairy Springs carpark said all but four of the 69 people who arrived at the shop in that time had a mask. STORY CONTINUES AFTER LIVE BLOG
