Traffic was backed up in both directions, and vehicles had to be diverted down Tennyson Drive and Basley Rd.
The spokeswoman said the scene was cleared by about 11am, and there were no reports of injuries.
Unison spokesman Danny Gough said the fallen street light column was tied up with a Unison owned overhead line, but no power was affected.
He said the line would be de-energised for about 15 minutes, affecting two customers, to be untangled.
