The Midlands Intercity senior hockey competition began yesterday, with four Rotorua teams in action during the first round.

Aces Women took on Mount Maunganui at home but were unable to trouble the scorers as they went down 3-0.

The Marist women were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Te Awamutu in Hamilton, struggling with team changes because some junior players were away for the school holidays.
