A former cult hero at the New Zealand Warriors has been doing plenty of homework during the past couple of months, as he prepares for his first season with the Chiefs.
Glen Fisiiahi jumped codes late last year, signing a two-year deal with the Chiefs after five years with the Warriors.
The exciting outside back told the Rotorua Daily Post he had been taking plenty of work home with him during the pre-season as he adapted to the 15-a-side game.
"I'm trying to get my head around the different facets of the game, like the breakdown and stuff. There is certainly a lot of learning involved with that side of things but I'm getting used to it," Fisiiahi said.
"I think the main thing is just knowing your positional role and knowing what you have to do for the team. And I think, for me, the main thing is your learning away from training.
"You don't want to let the boys down by not knowing your role and the calls of the plays and stuff, so I'm trying to take what I'm learning home."
The 25-year-old said he was enjoying the challenge of switching codes and couldn't wait to get a game at FMG Stadium Waikato.
"I've played there before. We had a trial game there against Penrith in 2013 and it is a fast track so I'm looking forward to getting out there again."
The speedster, who scored 15 NRL tries in 25 games, is not 100 per cent sure which position coach Dave Rennie will put him in, but would like a crack on the wing.
"I haven't really spoken to the coaches about that yet. But I'm definitely keen to give that wing spot a crack and put my hand up during this pre-season."
Fisiiahi has moved to Hamilton with his wife and said he was enjoying the relaxed lifestyle compared to Auckland.
"I drove to training one morning and it took like 10 minutes and some of the boys were like, 'were you stuck in traffic?'," he said with a laugh. "It is a lot different to Auckland and the traffic is all pretty free-flowing for me."
Fisiiahi, who played rugby at Wesley College before switching to league, said one of his favourite parts of the pre-season was watching old footage of Chiefs games.
"I think what excites me is when they show old footage of Chiefs players and old games, it's just like, far out, all these Chiefs greats used to play here, and if I slip on the jersey I want to do it for them and honour the past.
"I want to honour the present as well and myself and my family and do them proud. And that gees me up."
