The force is strong in Rotorua with fans so excited for the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that it looks like some records could be broken.
Reading Cinema's complex cinema manager Jannene Burns said the cinema was "crazy" yesterday and at midday it had already sold out three cinemas, about 340 tickets, for the premiere at midnight last night. She expected two more cinemas to sell out by around 10pm.
She believed the movie, the first in the saga since 2005, was set to break some records.
"I've been here 18 months and I've never seen it like this, it's going to be a busy night.
There are some hardcore fans, we have heard people will be dressing up which brings a bit more excitement."
Ms Burns said she was excited, not only for the movie but for the fans as well.
"It's pulling people together, having such big fans all coming together to watch it is really exciting."
Mathew Eggers, 38, may well be Rotorua's biggest Star Wars fan with countless memorabilia and plenty of knowledge.
"My mum took me to see Return of the Jedi when I was 8, so I saw them back to front and basically from then onwards I collected all the bubblegum cards and the figures, I had whole sets and had all the movies on VHS, which I still have."
He even remembers having Jedi ice blocks.
He said his whole family enjoyed the saga so much his two sons had had Star Wars themed parties and together they built a mine empire of Star Wars lego.
"My 40th is in a couple of years and apparently they are getting some Star Wars rides over in Disneyland so we are planning on going to check them out for it."
He is planning to go with his wife Deborah and their two boys Ryan, 8, and Jacob, 6, today because Jacob wouldn't have been able to stay awake for the midnight premiere.
"I just love the story and I love the excitement. It's just a galaxy far far away, it's just cool, we know it's not real but we love it."
Mr Eggers said he was excited to see what will happen in the latest movie.
"My main theory is that Kylo Ren is Darth Vader's apprentice, but JJ Abrams [the director] is very secretive so it's hard to know."
He said he had not been on Facebook at all yesterday because he did not want any spoilers.
"It's going to be phenomenal, it's going to break records and in 3D it's going to be amazing."
