Two pet dogs have been left injured after a six-dog brawl at a Rotorua park.
A woman was left shaken when her two small dogs got involved in a fight at the Ngongotaha Domain last night.
The council's compliance solutions manager, Neven Hill, said the brawl broke out around 6.30pm.
"A man was walking his two dogs around the same time the woman was walking her two . . . At some point, two unidentified dogs entered the park and started provoking the [man's] dogs.
He said the small dogs got excited and joined in, getting injured in the process.
Mr Hill said all six dogs were unleashed at the time and the two small animals had been taken to a vet.
"This unfortunate accident is an example of what can happen when people are walking their dogs without leads in a public place.
"Unless it is an approved dog park, people need to comply with the rules to keep themselves, their dogs and everyone else safe."
The two unidentified dogs fled the scene and had not been found by press time.
An investigation into the incident would continue today, Mr Hill said.
