BREW Bar has hosted Sonic Delusion a few times before so you may be forgiven for thinking you've heard all this Swiss-Kiwi electro-folk raconteur has to offer. Think again.
Previous visits have been the solo Sonic Delusion, also known as Andre Manella. Tomorrow's gig is Sonic Delusion (Trio), which is Manella with French import Severin Thiebaut and Kiwi Missie Moffatt.
Sonic's music is an upbeat concoction of folk, pop, funk and Latin, blended and layered with expertise on his well-worn loop pedal.
When expanded to a trio the funky electroacoustic folk is escalated. Thiebaut adds his Latin-flavoured keys and funky bass while Moffatt adds vocal and rhythmic harmonies. Sonic Delusion fuses triggered electronic drum sounds, acoustic cajun beats and an array of guitar effects. Looping allows him to add and subtract voice, bass lines, rhythm and tones to his songs.
They played at Okere Falls Store on Thursday and tonight at Brew Bar in Tauranga so by tomorrow they will be a well-oiled machine.
Brew Bar Rotorua manager Mel Rolfe said as a solo performer Sonic Delusion was always a hit with the patrons.
"He's pretty good," Miss Rolfe said.
"It's only been just him before but this time we're getting him and the band. I've not heard the band before so I'm looking forward to it. He's a good guy to have here but we fill up quite quickly so get here early.
"He'll be inside but we'll have the doors opened up."
