It was an afternoon of toe-tapping, hand-clapping fun for hundreds of people who turned out to the Mayoral Concert for the Elderly.
The concert, featuring some of the region's most loved performers, was held at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre, formerly known as the Rotorua Convention Centre, yesterday afternoon.
Mayor Steve Chadwick addressed the audience, introducing the series of performers, which included The Howard Morrison Quartet.
Though missing two members, Howard Morrison Jnr and Russell Harrison kept the audience clapping and cheering with a highly entertaining performance of a series of classic songs.
In between songs Mr Morrison didn't miss the chance to crack a joke.
"It's wonderful to see so many people here who use the same colour hair dye."
Mr Morrison said it was an honour to perform, for the first time, at the newly named centre.
Retiree Joan Jonkers went to watch the performance with a group from her rest home, Cantabria.
"It was a wonderful performance and a very nice way to spend an afternoon," she said.
"Though I have to say, towards the end, with the acoustic guitars playing, I thought it was going to rock me to sleep."
Jim Donnelly said he enjoyed the show and described it as "top quality".
"It was very good, though I couldn't pick out a favorite. They were all so good.
"It's nice to have something like this for us to come to."
Meanwhile, Age Concern's Positive Ageing Expo was held on Saturday, with more than 28 displays, music, entertainment and plenty of activities.
The event was held to co-incide with the International Day of Older Persons, usually celebrated on October 1, which aims to recognise the contributions of the elderly and to examine issues that affect their lives.
