Party options for all ages
Whether it's free and family friendly, or partying it up in style, there's plenty on offer around Rotorua for those wanting to see in 2014.
Pubs and bars in Rotorua are gearing up for the traditional busy night while organisers of Rotorua's second GLO Festival are hoping about 12,000 people will turn up for the free show which includes The X Factor winner Jackie Thomas and finalist Whenua Patuwai.
Party in the Park based at the Rotorua lakefront starts at 6pm with music through until the first lot of fireworks about 9.30pm. From there a family friendly movie will play on a big screen before a second, larger fireworks display at midnight.
People can go to the Rotorua GLO Festival Facebook page to vote which of the three movies they'd like to see screened - either Shrek, Robots or Monsters Inc.
Organiser Kylie Lang said the movie was aimed to fill in the time between the initial lot of fireworks and the midnight fireworks for those who didn't want to go to bars or clubs and wanted free entertainment.
Skyline Rotorua sales and marketing manager David Blackmore said New Year's Eve was great fun at Skyline.
He said they offered great entertainment with local band Count Me In performing as well as fantastic views of the fireworks around the city, including the public display at the lakefront.
At Novotel Rotorua DJ Pete Makiha is playing with a $10 entry fee for non guests.
Lava Bar is holding its NYE 2014 Black & Gold Party with cash prizes for the best dressed individuals and groups.
There will be performances from Lenium Beats Entertainment with support from DJ Paul E and MC Dreadeye & MC Mana.
Bar manager Paul Marston said they were encouraging people to dress to impress.
Mr Marston said it was a big night with about 250 people - mainly tourists - already expected.
The bar could cater for just under 500 people and Mr Marston said those who wanted to see in the new year at the Lava Bar should get in early.
There will be a cover charge from 9pm.
The Lakeland Queen is holding a casino-themed cruise promising a great spot to check out the fireworks.
Bars and restaurants along the newly reopened Eat Streat are also preparing for a big night.
For those wanting to head out of town for New Year's Eve, Taupo has a free family-friendly event.
This year Taupo District Council is putting on two rounds of fireworks and lots of fun-filled family activities on the Tongariro North Domain in the lead up to New Year, including a lolly scramble and glowstick giveaways.
A Twilight Mini Bang fireworks display at 9.30pm from a barge positioned on the main Taupo lakefront caters for families and enables children to enjoy fireworks before midnight. New Year is being celebrated with a spectacular Big Bang fireworks display from the barge.
A liquor ban will be in place and will be enforced.
For those looking for more of a party there's plenty happening in the Tauranga area. Stan Walker will be hosting The G2 Resolution New Year's Eve party - an 11-hour R & B and reggae festival.
Ten Kiwi acts including Ardijah, Three Houses Down, Tasty Brown and DJ Namron would be performing and so far more than half of the 1500 available tickets have been sold.
At Mount Maunganui Main Beach two stages would see bands and DJs playing from 8pm with a midnight fireworks display.
The Black Seeds, I Am Giant and Aaradhna are among the line-up for the first Mount Vibes, which will be held at ASB Baypark on New Year's Eve. Event organisers are hoping about 6000 people will buy tickets to see the 17 acts performing across two stages.
