An expo at the Kea St Specialist School celebrated the pupils' work.
Family members yesterday saw what their children had been doing throughout the year with colourful displays and artwork on show. Some stalls were selling products the pupils made, such as lip gloss and lolly Christmas trees.
Principal Sherie Collins said the school decided to host an expo instead of its annual flower show after the suggestion from new staff members.
"Parents have been delighted and think it's inspirational because all them [students] have an intellectual or physical disability. I think it's very satisfying to see all their creativity on display," Mrs Collins said.
Shaaron Piatekenjoyed seeing her son Marc's work.
"It's been great to see his artwork and photos of him at work experience. I work and he tells us what he does but it's nice to see it," she said.
Mrs Piatek said Marc loved attending Kea St and he was being taught life skills and can be out in the community.
"He wants to come to school even during the holiday times," she said.
"He has one more year here but the school is working with us to make the next transition, it's a collaboration."
Despite the challenges, Mrs Piatek said having a child with special needs was rewarding.
" It has made see the differences in other people more and being tolerant of others. It's also been rewarding being able to see your child achieve milestones and being able to set the next goal to achieve."
