The annual BOP Philippine Friendship Society Christmas function is being opened to the Rotorua community for a final fundraising push, raising money for Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan appeal.
On Saturday there will be a Christmas dinner and auction night at Westbrook School. Tickets are $23 and include a three-course meal. Dinner starts at 6.30pm and the auction is due to start at 8pm.
Club founder Cherry Andrews, who is organising the fundraising efforts, said this year the club was sacrificing its traditional Christmas function to help those in the Philippines.
"We are very fortunate here," Mrs Andrews said.
"This is a small sacrifice to make. We hope the Rotorua community will help us raise more funds. This is our last event and then we will turn our support to the community."
She said she hoped the night would raise around $2500. There are around 75 items to be auctioned off, ranging from a wheelbarrow and citrus tree to perfume and kitchen appliances.
People are welcome to attend the auction only but must phone to give an idea of numbers.
Please contact Mrs Andrews (021) 172 0080, Vincent Villasan (07) 348 8189 or Gloria Avena (07) 348 0262 to reserve your place for the dinner.
