A truck has tangled with fairy lights in Rotorua's CBD, pulling down the lights, bending poles and temporarily stopping traffic.
The incident happened at about 2.20pm yesterday when the haulage truck turned left from Pukuatua St into Tutanekai St and got caught in lights hanging across the road.
Several strings of lights were pulled to the ground, the force also bringing down the pole outside ASB bank. A pole across the road was also left on an unsafe lean.
Rotorua District Council city services manager Dennis Olliver said no one had been in danger as the power to the street lighting was not live.
He said police and Castlecorp staff were quickly on the scene to make repairs, including removing the lights and the two damaged poles.
Tutanekai St between Pukuatua and Haupapa streets was closed to traffic for more than an hour.
Rotorua Night Market manager Brigitte Nelson was also called to the scene as the lights covered the area were used for the street market, which celebrates its third birthday on March 14.
She said no lasting harm was done and the market would go ahead as usual.
