This year's Zombie Walk events have raised more than double the amount of money than the previous two years combined for the Rotorua Brain Injury Association.
Rotorua Brain Injury Association chairwoman Rose Mansell met with Zombie Walk organiser Layla Robinson yesterday to receive the proceeds from this year's three events, the Night at the Museum, the Zombie Walk and the Halloween Party - a staggering $4758.50 in total. A total of $1700 was raised at the party, $800 at the museum and the rest at the walk and through other donations.
Ms Robinson said she was "absolutely stoked" with the amount of money raised.
"Our goal was $4000 - in the previous two years we raised $4000, so this year we wanted to raise the whole amount in one year."
She said there had even been some out-of-towners who had been to more than one event.
The Zombie Walk is on the cards for next year as Ms Robinson said she now had "heaps" of support so it was easier to organise.
With Rotorua's brain injury awareness week coming up, Mrs Mansell said the Zombie Walk donation had already put them ahead of the amount they usually raised - $2000.
"Next week in Rotorua, Taupo and Turangi is brain injury awareness week, there will be people out on the streets with information at the City Focus, Ngongotaha and New World. The Rotorua appeal has had this great kick start from Layla - she did the hard work by raising awareness, it's absolutely incredible."
Mrs Mansell said she, her son and his six kids had been to every Zombie Walk since it began.
Both women said the success of this year's event was partly due to support from Spookers and they were also thankful to the many organisations that donated money and prizes.
